"We sabotage our greatness because of our fear."
- Robin Sharma
Three years ago, I was stuck in a cycle of self-sabotage in my business...I was working with amazing clients, generating great results, using effective systems but the moment it started feeling too comfortable & consistent I'd change everything! WHY!!! This was the question I was constantly asking myself... "Why am I sabotaging my own success?" Did I not want to make more money and get more client success? I didn't think so. Was I bored? Perhaps. Was I scared? Yes. I'm going to share the reasons you're sabotaging and how to move through that fear. You'll also gain insights into how I've managed to help 100s of other leaders break the cycle of self-sabotage through relentless action & mental clarity. Today, I’ve built the mental clarity and resilience I once thought was out of reach. This isn’t about magically escaping your mental rut—though, in a way, your mindset can shift your reality. But it’s about practical, intentional shifts that help you break through uncertainty and stop sabotaging your own progress. Because...we all DESERVE success. And the great thing is, you can have it all: money, success, good health & a high quality of life. I’ve seen people thrive under pressure, rising to their potential whilst maintaining a high level mental state & physical health. I’ve also seen others freeze at the first sign of uncertainty, sinking deeper into their mental rut. When I was self-sabotaging, the real reason was FEAR. These are the 5 Deep Fears that we have as humans: Put simply,
I'm sure you've experienced at least 1 of the above...perhaps it was mutilation; your body went into fight, flight or freeze mode because you were in physical danger. But to keep this subject appropriate, what you may be experiencing with self-sabotage in business, health or life in general is; Separation, Loss of Autonomy or Ego Death. For me, it was loss of autonomy. I didn't know what was around the corner. In some cases; the unknown drives me and excites me, but in business, it was The truth is, I was displaying a victim mentality and I actually created my own problems so that I could stay stuck and complain that I couldn't do it. Sounds ridiculous right...it is, trust me. The real question is, how well do you know your own mind? Your mind is not always working for you, in fact most people have a mind that is constantly trying to sabotage them by keeping them safe. But here's a question you must ask yourself...do you trust yourself [not your mind] to make the right decisions when faced with the unknown? I didn’t back then. I doubted myself constantly. The problem was, I didn’t realize how deeply my mind had conditioned me to stay stuck and when I understood those general habits & patterns, I was able to move forward like I was running on clouds. Since; I've spoken in front of the biggest corporate consultancy company in the world [PwC], run my own workshops & spoken at numerous events with 100s of people. I’ve re-trained my mind to embrace uncertainty, to see it as a gateway to growth rather than a dead end. Now, I’ve built a mindset that allows me to step out of [and stay out of] my comfort zone and thrive, even when the path isn’t clear. "Faith is taking the next step when you don't see the whole staircase." Three years ago, I let fear and doubt drive my decisions. I convinced myself that staying comfortable was better than facing the unknown. But playing it safe can trap you in a mental rut - where growth feels impossible and success always seems out of reach. The truth is, self-sabotage is a form of self-protection, keeping you small to avoid failure. But without pushing through uncertainty, you'll never unlock your true potential. I’ve been working closely with high performers for years, and one thing is clear: those who thrive in the face of uncertainty are the ones who break free from self-sabotage. Here are my 5 key shifts for anyone looking to move through deeply rooted fear:
If you want to stop sabotaging your own success you have to start by recognising the mental traps holding you back. Your subconscious mind is powerful, and if you don’t learn to master it, it will always keep you small. It’s time to break free from that mental rut. Go and build the mindset that will push you forward. |
